The North East Business Resilience Centre (NEBRC) is proud to announce the recruitment of 15 additional students from universities across Yorkshire and the North East into its Student Services programme, delivered in partnership with the National Cyber Resilience Centre’s Cyber PATH initiative.

These students, who are currently studying Cyber Security and Digital Forensics courses, hail from Sheffield Hallam University and Northumbria University, long-standing NEBRC partners, as well as newly engaged institutions including Leeds Beckett, Durham, and Teesside Universities. As part of this initiative, the students will be in paid employment by providing local businesses with a range of affordable cyber resilience services under the guidance of experienced cyber security practitioners.

The services offered through this programme include security training, website security testing, and network testing. By leveraging the skills of these talented students, NEBRC ensures that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can access cost-effective cyber resilience support without compromising quality or professionalism.

The new recruits are currently undergoing training and will be mentored by NEBRC’s experienced student team alongside Service and Technology Supervisor Joe Cockcroft, a former student of the programme himself. In total, 31 students will now be working at NEBRC to deliver ethical hacking and cyber resilience services to businesses.

“The expansion of our Student Services programme highlights our commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry,” said Martin Wilson, Head of Student Services at NEBRC. “Not only are we helping businesses protect their business from online crime and fraud, but we are also providing students with real-world experience to enhance their future employment prospects.”

NEBRC’s Student Services programme in conjunction with the Cyber PATH initiative, is designed to connect local businesses with the latest cyber security expertise emerging from leading universities. By offering SMEs accessible and affordable support, the programme enables businesses to identify basic cyber risks and strengthen their resilience before the requirement to engage professional providers.
